Code-wrestling for fun and... no profit

Last time on TK-web.top, I switched away from github for the site. Instead, I'm using my own Forgejo instance for version control. I was still at that time using Cloudflare's CLI tool, Wrangler to deploy the site.

Today, however, I'm proud to announce that I'm no longer hosting TK-web.top on Cloudflare pages! I'm still using them for DNS and tunneling, but those are more in line with who Cloudflare is as a company right now. They are a security provider first and foremost and I'd like to keep my relationship with them in that realm if I can. Instead, TK-web.top is now hosted in an httpd container on my own personal server!

With this update comes a couple of changes. First, I can't deploy the site from anywhere like I could when it was hosted on Github for version control. There may be a way to eventually add an actions workflow to Forgejo to re-enable this functionality, but my home server isn't really powerful enough to run everything all the time. It just doesn't have the RAM to keep everything ready to go and I don't know if you've heard, but RAM is pretty damn scarce these days. Even the DDR4 that I'd put in the Home Server is pricey. So. For now, this is how it is. My workflow is still pretty similar. I write a post, run a blog update script, and the site updates.

The one major downside is that if the homeserver is down for any reason, like high winds and wildfire risk, the site will also be unavailable. I would like to eventually get a VPS or other hosting option and host my site in a more resilient spot, specifically in case something happens to the actual hardware. Maybe some sort of small CDN to keep both in sync would be cool.

I also took this moment to re-do some of the rest of the site and I PROMISE it isn't because I fucking broke everything. Anyway, you may have noticed a cool new theme! It's a heavily modified version of the Mana theme by Livour. You can find it over on (ugh) Github. You can expect some changes over the next little while as I dial in the colors to be more in line with the vibe I want the site's new look to have.

Anyway, that's all I have for you right now.

Build websites, host websites, do cool shit.
