Major Site Updates

Moving house and redecorating

Okay, so a lot has happened to TK-web in the last like four hours. I'm going to go through them in order of importance:

A New Domain Permalink to this heading

I was starting to get attached to tk-web.top, but I've started seeing some feedback saying that various adblockers or other website rating tools have been flagging the site as unsafe. The .top TLD has a pretty poor reputation, quite probably because they're so cheap to register and renew, so they're attractive to scammers. Even though I have the .top domain for another 4 years, I've decided to cut my losses... sort of. TK-web.top will continue to work basically as long as I own the domain. RSS will still work, etc. That timer is about four years long, so I'll be sure to post a reminder to use the new domain as we get closer. So, what is the new domain? well...

TK-web.quest Permalink to this heading

From here on, TK-web.quest will be the primary domain for this site. In the coming days I'll be moving the Letterbird conftact form to a new email address with the same domain. RSS also works on the new domain.

With the new TLD, I figured it was time to abandon the Taming Knots title I never truly loved. This one isn't a bulls-eye either, but it's closer to the mark. TK's Web Quest reflects my deepening love of the indie web and learning to do more with the internet in general. Self hosting, web hosting, and learning more in my new-ish professional field are big goals of mine, so it's only fitting that I go with this kind of name.

This one is more of a practical consideration. While I like the way my v2 theme looks quite a bit, that theme break Hugo's image processing functionality. I don't think my modifications would have broken it, but the fact remains. Images looked like ass on it.

So, even though it looks super boring right now, I'm using the PaperMod theme. It's bland, it's boring, but it works and it's fast. I'm going to be fiddling with the theming over the coming days.
