A Splash of Color and Git Branching
Permalink for A Splash of Color and Git BranchingA TK-web update
As I wrote about yesterday, TK-web has gone through a lot of changes this week. Thankfully, I believe I've landed on a good setup that I like, though it isn't perfect. Here's some highlights.
RSS Permalink to this heading
The RSS link is no longer in the main menu. Instead, it will be at the top of each category page. The important one for most folks is going to be the All Posts page. Clicking the RSS icon will take you to the feed there.
Colors! Permalink to this heading
The site's new color scheme is based on the Kanagawa colors that I've been using for Obsidian and in my code editor. The one place that this scheme doesn't reach is the code fences. Hugo uses Chroma for syntax highlighting, so code blocks like the one below have to use a Chroma style. That means I'm stuck with what they have implemented.
The colors are fine, but they aren't what I'd like. If anyone has any experience of forcing a hugo site to use colors that I want it to and has a good way to convert the kanagawa scheme to css for it, let me know.
I also haven't updated the theme for Letterbird yet, so the contact form clashes some. I'll get an update out to that soon-ish.
/Legal Permalink to this heading
The Legal page is now hidden by default. I may eventually re-add it to the footer, but for now I'm not going to bother. The page itself still exists, of course, but I just don't have anything pointed to it.
Git Branches Permalink to this heading
While I was doing the big move, I forced myself to learn how Git Branches work and use them. I didn't learn everything, but it's fun to start to understand exactly how these things work. That said, it seems pretty easy for me to get my testing branch behind unless I delete and re-make it every time I merge a test commit, since some stuff, like new posts, are going to be pushed directly to the main branch. I guess I'll do more digging on it the next time I have a major update.
