Project MOONDOOR Readme v0.3a
========================================

Thank you for downloading MOONDOOR. This is a Doom engine game, but running it isn't exactly trivial, so I'm providing instructions here.

------------
Requirements
------------

- A DOOM source port compatible with zdoom maps. I recommend UZDOOM for this, since it's multiplatform and relatively easy to install

- (optional, recommended) A DOOM Launcher. This will allow you to easily launch the MOONDOOR.wad alongside the required base freedoom1.wad. I recommend DoomRunner for this. It isn't the prettiest, but it does work well.

------------------
Launching the game
------------------

- Download UZDOOM and DoomRunner. If on Linux, I recommend the AppImage versions of both. On Windows, they'll both come as zip files. On MacOS, dmgs. Unzip or otherwise install both UZDOOM and DoomRunner

- Place the freedoom1.wad and MOONDOOR.wad in a convinient location.

- Run DoomRunner. It should pop up a new window automatically for initial setup.

- at the bottom of the left pane, click the + icon to add your first Doom engine. Browse to UZDOOM and select it. Change the Engine Family dropdown to zdoom. Click OK

- On the right pane, click the + icon and browse to freedoom1.wad.

- Below the Engine selction, there will be an option to enter a directory for map packs. Select the folder you put MOONDOOR.wad into.

- Click OK at the bottom of the inital setup window.

- You'll now see the main DoomRunner window. UZDoom and Freedoom1 should be slected automatically. Click MOONDOOR.wad in the Map Pack pane, then launch the game!

-----------
Note:
-----------

The MOONDOOR wad only has one level. Simply select the first level in the list and you should be in the correct map. The difficulty selection also doesn't matter. Every difficulty is the same.

This project uses Freedoom as the base wad so that the game is 100% free to play.

Freedoom contains hundreds of original textures, sound effects and music tracks that can be reused royalty-free by Doom level authors and other independent game developers.
